Mechanism Behind Injuries
Body armour has been a part of soldier combat gear since the start of organized warfare. Definitely the modern armour is well equipped with high strength synthetic materials and protects the wearer against penetration injuries from bullets, knives etc. With such development, it has led to an increased use of armour not just by army personnel but law enforcement personnel as well.
Whenever we study about any ballistic protection vests etc., we read their functions, uses etc. But before understanding how exactly the body armour works, we must read about the mechanism of injuries from which the armour keeps the wearer safe.
The human body is sensitive and reacts quickly to any danger caused by penetration. It is clearly not made to resist any deep penetrative threats as these are not common in nature, so even a low-energy penetration could turn out to be fatal. High-velocity threats carry an additional probability that not only they cause a large wound cavity but will also result in excessive damage of tissues because of rapid transfer of energy during deep penetration. Contrary to this, human body is quite protected from blunt impacts, for example, a football approaching with approximately 200 joules. Also, human body is capable to withstand falls and car accidents up to 40 G.
So we can conclude from the above observations that human body should be firstly protected from any sort of projectiles and the energy transferred by them. Thus, armour should be strictly made not only to prevent penetration but should also nullify the effect of the energy and should dissipate and absorb that energy to contain the projectile.

The Quest to Design the Best Helmet for Soldiers
Most soldiers, either engaged in active war or patrolling during peacetime, carry a lot of weight. Most of that weight is in the armour. Everything that a soldier carries on him is done with two simple purposes – keeping the wearer safe and aiding in the completion of tasks. Staying safe in a battle field or an active action zone is subjective, but soldiers expect the best from his armour. In several studies it was reported that soldiers suffered extensively from blunt force trauma to their heads. This can be prevented by dealing withBehind Armour Blunt Trauma (BABT).
Understanding BABT
Behind Armour Blunt Trauma (BABT) is an injury resulting from impacts that do not penetrate the armour but cause rapid deformation. Though the solider doesn’t receive fatal injury because of the bullet, the trauma does cause considerable damage. In extreme circumstances, the BABT may cause Brain Traumatic Injury and result in death, even though the projectile has not penetrated the armour. In most cases BABT causes pulmonary contusions and lacerations in the thorax or spinal region of the soldier.
New Helmet Designs
Armour designers around the world are actively working towards designing the perfect material which can be interposed between the armour and the wearer to cancel out the effect of trauma force from the whole equation. Detailed analysis of the biomechanical implication of such traumas has helped armour designers in equipping new generation helmets with impact attenuating materials.
Revolutionary Helmet-Design Technology
MKU a leading manufacturer of armoured platforms & solutionshave come up with a rather unique solution that does not use bolts in the construction. On top of that, the Modular Padding Suspension System (MPSS) is very effective in reducing the final impact on the soldier and keeps him in the event of a projectile contact with the helmet. The MUKUT helmet can reduce BABT by up to 40% compared to traditional helmets.
This is a revolutionary product based on an equally revolutionary technique which will offer superior protection to soldiers from non-penetrating traumas. Additionally, the helmets feature non-toxic materials and promote excellent in-helmet air flow which makes it suitable for use even for very long periods.
